Power Plant Control System

LOCATION: Huntington, Utah

Schedule: Two years

PSE was contracted to implement a new (DCS) for a power plant near Price, Utah. The project included studying the existing plant controls and creating as-built drawings and documentation of all existing wiring. Those drawings were then used as the basis on which to build a new automated control system that was installed in Power Plant at Point of Rocks, Wyoming, and a Power Plant in Glenrock Wyoming. PSE installed the new Ovation DCS without interruption to the plant’s normal operation.

PSE engineered an overall database that contained each I/O point for the entire DCS control system.  Each point contained data as to the cabinet, terminals, voltage, and whether the point required power or was sourcing its own power. Once the database was complete PSE provided all the wiring drawings to show how each point would be connected to the new hardware. Two units were completed at the Power Plant: Unit #2 was completed first and took approximately one year,  then Unit #1 was done and took an additional year to complete. Westinghouse supplied their equipment and did the software configuration for their equipment, both the HMI graphic screens and the controller programming.

PSE was responsible for: comprehensive documentation of existing wiring and controls, equipment layout drawings, installation and programming of Ovation DCS, termination drawings, conduit and cable tray routing drawings, power distribution for new system, MCC design, and support during the construction phase.
