Project Phoenix Combined Heat And Power Plant
CLIENT: Bodell
LOCATION: Mountain Pass, California
Fee: $3.8 Million
PROJECT SCHEDULE: one year
PSE partnered with Bodell Construction to supply the design and engineering for the Molycorp Combined Heat and Power Plant for their rare earth mining operations. PSE’s scope was to supply the design and engineering for the project to develop drawings and specifications that would allow Bodell to fabricate and supply the piping, electrical and instrumentation required to connect all of the components inside and out of the Combined Heat and Power Plant building. This included project management; document control; creating a 3d piping model and drawings; designing electrical wiring, power, and cable tray drawings; engineering seismic bracing and conduit supports; and onsite commissioning
As part of this task PSE developed a 3-D model using CADworx and AutoCAD. The model was very complex and was used to identify interferences with piping, cable trays, and equipment. PSE stayed on-site to support the startup and commissioning effort. At the end of the project PSE built the model to supply to the owner as a completed project.
This project was the power and energy supply for all of the new additions to the plant and was subsequently a high priority and involved a very aggressive schedule in order to meet first fire of the Combustion Turbine Generators and the Heat Recovery Steam Generators. The schedule was met despite an evolving set of P&IDs and regular project changes.
