PROJECT SCHEDULE: Two years

US Oil Sands developed a patented, breakthrough extraction process that employs a unique bio-solvent to facilitate bitumen extraction from oil-wet oil sand ores without the need for tailings ponds.  In PR Springs, Utah, US Oil Sands needed engineering services to implement a commercial scale-up of the technology.

PSE joined the project when the engineering was about 50% complete, taking over for a company that no longer worked in the minerals engineering business.  PSE was contracted to provide detailed civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and HMI programming and process controls engineering for:

  • Plant water

  • Ore receiving and stockpiling

  • Ore conditioning

  •  Processing plant facility including:

    • Separation

    • Clarification

    •  Screening

    •  Dewatering

    • Solvent recovery

    • Piping

  • Tank farm and product loadout

PSE also specified and procured most of the project's major equipment, process tanks, specialty wear resistant piping and instrumentation. In addition, PSE was responsible for completing the following: Conceptual Layouts, Mechanical Design, Concrete Design, Platework Design, Electrical Design, Piping Design, Civil Design, GA’s/Span Locations Structural Design, Instr. Design, Construction, Commissioning & Turnover.
